This is the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest movies ever made. Ever!
Sylvester Stallone, aka the Italian Stallion, was so down and out, so broke, that he had to sell his dog(temporarily). Because he wasn’t making it in Hollywood as an actor. He couldn’t even land a spot as an Italian, as an extra in the classic movie The Godfather. They said he didn’t look Italian enough.
But that didn’t break him. It just fueled him. So he went home and wrote the movie Rocky in three days. You read that right. Stallone wrote the movie Rocky in three days. And with the plan of playing the leading role, Rocky, himself.
The interested parties didn’t want Stallone playing Rocky though. No matter what. Sylvester was even offered $350,000 for the screenplay and turned it down. Even though he was beyond broke and living on skid row he held out until he eventually found someone willing to cast him as Rocky. And, well, the rest is history. And this song, Eye of the Tiger couldn’t be more fitting for his real life and his life as Rocky Balboa.
